What distinguish democracy from other from of government ?explain

democracy is for the people, from the people, by the people. people's point of view is respected, people themselves elect their rulers or government.
dictatorship or martial law however is one man show, everyone has to listen to the dictator or chief martial law administrator.
monarchy, lastly is similar to martial law but in it power remains in one hand,within a family and is passed on generation to generation.
