A living organism is composed of various cells. The cells divide and the body of the organisms shows growth due to the rise in the number of cells.
Living organisms need air, shelter, water and food to survive.
- Air:- Air is a mixture of gases. Animals and humans breathe in oxygen gas and give out carbon dioxide. Plants breathe in carbon dioxide from the air and give out oxygen.
- Shelter:- We all live in a house with our family members. A house has a roof and walls that shelter us from heat, cold, rain and wind. It also keeps us safe from animals and people who can harm us (like thieves). There are different rooms in a house: living room, dining room, kitchen, washroom and bedroom. A house has doors and windows that let in fresh air and sunlight.
- Water:- Water finds a wide range of uses in our lives like drinking, cooking, washing, cleaning and bathing. Water is used in various factories. Electricity is also produced from water. It is used for putting out a fire, watering plants in gardens and fields, washing vehicles, etc. Just as water is important for us, it is equally important for plants and animals. Animals need water for drinking and cleaning themselves. Wild animals get water from rivers or streams in forests. Animals that are domesticated or are pets are given water by their masters. Plants cannot survive without water. They require water to carry out photosynthesis. Some plants live and grow in water. Thus, water is essential for all living organisms to stay alive.
- Food:- We all need food to survive because food gives us the energy to do our work and grow strong. Eating healthy food protects us from various diseases. We eat different types of food items. Each food item is important and plays a vital role in the development of the body.
