Similarly, if you pour some water into a glass, the water occupies some space. This space represents the volume of water. Volumeis a derived physical quantity as it can be derived by knowing the length, breadth and height or depth of an object or substance. Volume of solids is usually expressed in cubic metre, represented as m³. But when the volume of an object is small, it is expressed in cubic centimetre also represented as cm³. Volume of liquids is usually expressed in litres, represented as ‘L’ or ‘l’.
