Historians and folk storytellers always attribute the fall of a certain dynasty or kingdom to “Helen of Troy”. The same old stories have been told generation after generation, but what really baffles me is people till today are still obsessed with such claptrap.

A typical “红颜祸水” folk legend is generally like this:

Every time a dynasty/kingdom was on the verge of collapse, there would be a rare beauty who shouldered a critical mission that speeding up the process of the demise of the old regime. Usually that fair lady was so peerlessly beautiful that the king/emperor would be willing to do anything for her, as long as that could make her happy. Normally the emperor/king used to be a wise guy, once he was captivated by the beauty, he did a lot of preposterous deeds which stirred public outrage. In the end, the empire was overthrow by emerging forces, a brand new dynasty was born, until several hundred years later, the exact same story repeated, a new cycle began.
