An acid is a chemical substance which has one or more than one replaceable hydrogen atoms and which furnishes hydronium ions in water. Eg boric acid, sulphuric acid.
A base is a metallic oxide or hydroxide which reacts with an acid to form salt and water only. Eg sodium hydroxide.
