Eddy currents are currents induced in conductors to oppose the change in flux that generated them.[citation needed] It is caused when a conductor is exposed to a changing magnetic field due to relative motion of the field source and conductor; or due to variations of the field with time.

When a metallic plate is moved in a magnetic field or placed in a changing magnetic field, then flux linked with the conductor changes, hence an induced current is produced in the plate. This induced current is called eddy current or Foucault's current
