The character used in “A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man” “Stephen Daedalus” is the double of James Joyce himself.  Most part of the novel is fictional but some of revelations are his personal experience.  The experience which he has with the prostitute is Joyce himself and the “Christmas Dinner Scene are real.

He has also made references to the real politics and religion of twentieth century.  He follows two kinds of style in this novel. 1) Extensive and convincing use of stream of consciousness which represent his inner thoughts and perceptions.

2) Epiphany : The character gets sudden and profound realization caused by either “external object or a voice from within”.  In this novel, this style is often used.  Example, “Stephen sees a young girl wading at the beach, and realises that an appreciation for beauty can be truly good.”
