Self-sufficiency (also called self-containment) is the state of not requiring any aid, support, or interaction for survival; it is a type of personal or collective autonomy.[1] On a national scale, a totally self-sufficient economy that does not trade with the outside world is called an autarky.
Self-sufficiency is a type of sustainable livingin which nothing is consumed other than what is produced by the self-sufficient individuals. Examples of attempts at self-sufficiency in North America include simple living, homesteading, off-the-grid, survivalism, DIY ethic and the back-to-the-land movement.

"Self-sufficient village economy refers to such kind of situation in which the village is equipped with all sort of facilities required by the people within it. It doesn’t depend upon neighboring villages or other places for its needs.
The people of the village with such type of economy consume food made from the crop grown in their village, wear clothes that are spun in the mills of local areas. The wealthy people of the village may donate money for infrastructure facilities with help of which all needs are satisfied within the village itself. It may have schools, hospital, banks and even the police station too."
