An independent judiciary is one not be subject to improper influence from the other branches of government, or from private or partisan interests. Different methods are used to promote judicial independence, through various manners of judicial selection, or choosing judges.

Judiciary has a big role to play in a democratic country. If a judiciary cannot function independently, and is being dominated by executive or legislature then it becomes a matter of concern for everyone because it might lead to a situation of other forms of government like dictatorship etc etc.
