By Death taking away “the Best”Charlotte Bronte, is most probably referring to her elder sisters, Maria and Elizabeth, who died of typhoid barely six weeks of each other, when she was barely 10 years of age. She little recalled her mother, who died when she was around 4 or 5… She could also be referring to her mother’s sister who came to live with them when her mother died. She had quite an influence on Charlotte, from all accounts.
