the shia wanted only the kin of prophet muhammad ( S.A.W. ) to become khalifa and not people according to their iman. This divided the muslims otherwise muslims had no shia , sunni , sheikh , mondal , etc. All muslims were equal under the eyes of ALLAH subhan wa tala . Only the muslims were foolish enough to duvide them according to their thinking.
