What does this line mean?"Small Animals have a larger surface area relative to their volume they tend to loose body heat very fast when it is cold outside and they have to expend much energy to generate body heat through metabolism". but small animals have smaller surface area right?

Look, a cylinder has 24cm square as the base area on both sides.

When you slice it so that two more cylinders form, both of them will have 24cm square as the base area. Which means 4 base area of 24cm square is formed.

The initial big cylinder has 2 side of 24cm square. But the sliced two cylinders have total 4 sides of 24cm square as base area.

The same thing happens in animals .small animals have high surface area compared to larger ones.
