According to Malthus the population is increased in geometric progression and the food supply in arithmetic progression. So population will increase dramatically than the food supply. So he said that if the population is allowed to grow unchecked there would be Catastrophe in the farm of food shortage, famines and starvation and wars which would lead population back to sustainable level.

So he focused that in order to balance the food supply and population, preventive measures like family planning, late marriages and celibacy should be taken to control population growth.
