The initial step in the depletion ofstratospheric ozone by human activities is the emission, at Earth's surface, of gases containing chlorine and bromine. Most of these gases accumulate in the lower atmosphere because they are unreactive and do not dissolve readily in rain or snow.

CFC's-chloroflouro carbons
these are emitted from refrigerator and air conditioner mainly and are responsible for depletion of ozone layer
These cfc's reach the stratosphere layer and they combine with ozone molecules leading to the division of cfc into cl(free radical) and ozone is depleted into free O2 molecules..
