Hi,
According to the problem given,
1 / 4 , 1 / 6 are two numbers
Their sum = 1/ 4 + 1 / 6
= ( 3 + 2 ) / 12
= 5 / 12-----( 1 )
Average of these numbers = ( 1 ) / 2
= ( 5 / 12 ) / 2
= 5 /24 --- ( 2 )
Let the fraction x to be subtracted from the
sum of 1 /4 and 1 / 6 to have an average of
1 /12 of these two fractions
( 1 ) - x = ( 2 )
5 / 12 - x = 5 / 24
5 / 12 - 5 / 24 = x
( 10 - 5 ) / 24 = x
5 / 24 = x
Therefore,
x = 5 / 24
I hope this helps you.
