What happen to the speed of sound when it goes from solid to gaseous state

See my friend as solid is denser than air and if u are putting ur ear on a metal pipe u would feel the vibrations same as the railway tracks u can feel the vibrations but when u are standing near railway track and a train is much far apart u would not hear its sound unless u put ur ear on it so when sound waves went solid to gas as of more space between air particles speed decreases.
