The Honest Woodcutter
( Aesop's Fables )
Answer:
- The woodcutter was cutting down a tree on the bank of a river. Suddenly his sight slipped and his axe fell into the water.
Synopsis:
- He was upset of his loss and to this, Mercury, the water-god, came up and asked reason. The woodcutter was very honest so he told Mercury of what just happened.
- Mercury showed him a golden axe and a silver axe, and to both the axes, the woodcutter showed no interest as they didn't belong to him.
- When Mercury brought up his (woodcutter's) missing axe, the woodcutter was overjoyed. The honest woodcutter was rewarded with three axes.
