Impurities lowers the melting point by disrupting the crystal lattice formed by a pure compound. Higher melting points are associated with tightly packed crystal lattice. So when you add the impurities, the crystal lattice becomes less crowded and it melts at lower temperature resulting in the lowering of boiling point and increasing of melting point.
