Reaction involved in making of bleaching powder:-

Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 -------> CaOCl2 + H2O

Uses of bleaching powder :-

  • It is used for making wool unshrinkable.
  • It is used as a disinfectant and germicide agent in drinking water.
  • It is used as a bleaching agent for cotton, linen and wood pulp.
