What happens when

Iron nails are placed in copper sulphate solution

and plzzz tell the chemical equation of this

illicitreader: THE IRON NAIL DISPLACES THE COPPER SULPHATE SOLUTION AS IRON IS MORE REACTIVE THAN THE COPPER
illicitreader: AS YOU KNOW THAT THE MORE REACTIVE METAL DISPLACES THE LESS REACTIVE METAL
illicitreader: CuSO4 + Fe ----------> FeSO4 + Cu
illicitreader: hope it helps you

when iron nail is kept in copper sulphate the iron nail turns rusted brown in colour.
Chemical Equation:

Iron is more reactive than copper, therefore it can displace copper from its salts (here,copper sulphate).

The displacement reaction taking place can e written as :

Fe + CuSO4(aq) == FeSO4 + Cu

Iron + Copper Sulphate(aq) == Iron sulphate + copper

1) The initial blue colour of copper sulphate solution is changed to light green colour of iron sulphate.

2) The initial silver colour of iron nail is changed to reddish-brown colour due to coating of copper metal on the nail.
