When we inhale air through nose the oxygen present in it is transfused within the lungs to oxygenate blood.

Explanation:

The respiratory system consists of an external organ the nose, nasal cavity, trachea and a pair of Lungs.

The air inhaled from the nose is filtered for solid pollutants in the nasal cavity and further passes through the trachea to reach the lungs.

Lungs have several tiny branches of air-sacs (which resemble a cauliflower) called the alveoli. When we breathe these alveoli are filled with oxygen.

Transfusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place in the alveoli of the lungs. Transfusion is, oxygen present in alveoli is absorbed by the blood which is returning from circulation in the body and the carbon dioxide in the blood is taken up by the alveoli, which is then exhaled.  The Haemoglobin present in blood carries carbon dioxide to lungs through the blood stream and it is exchanged with oxygen.

The blood is rich in oxygen after the transfusion and is capable of providing energy for the body’s functioning and to carry out metabolism.
