Poverty, unemployment compel people to migrate to urban areas in search of better opportunities. d. Also because of better health, education facilities, people migrate from rural to urban areas. In India, the rural-urban migration has resulted in a steady increase in the percentage of population in cities and towns.

i) Million plus cities have increased manifolds.

ii) Rural - urban migration influences the distribution of population within the nation. The number of people increases in the urban areas especially the male popualation as they migrate in search of jobs.

iii) Due to migration many of our cities have become over crowded.

iv) Due to increase in population many problem arises in urban areas. Like, Scarcity of land, water etc.

v) Migration if huge labour class also leads to the emergence of slums where the living conditions are very poor.
