There are some people who would like to understand the different trophic systems because they do not understand why the food chain is only limited to 5 trophic levels. It should be remembered that for each trophic level, there is a certain amount of energy that is being consumed. There are two laws that are being followed for this. The first law is that energy cannot be created or destroyed, which means that it will just be passed on to the next level. There are times when the level of energy will tremendously change. The second law is that there may be a loss of energy whenever heat is released, which normally occurs when the energy is transferred between trophic levels.
