When magma (very hot liquified metals, rocks, gases etc) has accumulated in the crust (lithosphere) and is exerting pressure for release of accumulated energy. It creates a fissure and cracks the upper most layer of the crust and bursts out in the open in the form of Lava on the surface of the earth for the release of the pent up energy. If the Magma is too viscous the volcano will have a sharp conical shape, if the magma is too runny, it bursts out without making a sharp conical shape. This is called a Volcanic eruption.

Explanation:
A volcano is a vent in the Earth's crust from which eruptions occur. There are about 1500 potentially active volcanoes worldwide. When volcanoes erupt they can spew hot, dangerous gases, ash, lava and rock that can cause disastrous loss of life and property, especially in heavily populated areas.
