Acceleration
It is defined as the rate of change in the velocity of a body with respect to time
In other words,
a=dv/dt
Units
SI units is m/s2
CGS is cm/s2
As discussed above the acceleration of rate of change in velocity (V2-V1/T) .
So when the final velocity is less than the initial velocity then the acceleration is negative and a specific name is given to the negative acceleration that is Retardation.
Example Of Retardation;-
A body sliding or rolling on the rough surface
A body thrown vertically upward
Two like charges came toward
Car on applying of the brake
Note:- Frictional Force Is Always Retarding Force

ACCELERATION:
In mechanics, acceleration is the rate of change of the velocity of an object with respect to time. Accelerations are vector quantities. The orientation of an object's acceleration is given by the orientation of the net force acting on that object.
S. I. Unit: m/s^2, m·s^−2, m s^−2
Dimension: L T ^ −2
TYPES OF ACCELERATION:
1. Uniform acceleration: When an object is travelling in a straight line with an increase in velocity at equal intervals of time, then the object is said to be in uniform acceleration. Free falling of an object is an example of uniform acceleration.
2. Non-uniform acceleration: When an object is travelling with an increase in velocity but not at the equal intervals of time is known as non-uniform acceleration. Bus moving or leaving from the bus stop is an example of non-uniform acceleration.
3. Instantaneous acceleration: Acceleration of an object at any instant of time is known as instantaneous acceleration.
