Sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are two of the gases involved in the creation of acid rain. When these gases are released into the environment and mixed with water, oxygen, and other chemicals, they create acidic compounds, such as sulphuric acid and nitric acid, which results in the formation of acid rain.

acid rain is an effect of air pollution due to release of oxides of nitrogen and sulphur dioxides which react with rain water and produce strong acids like sulphuric acid, nitric acid, nitrous acid, etc. This falls as acid rain, which corrodes and damages buildings, trees, makes soil acidic, kills freshwater fish, etc.
