✍️Acid rain is caused by a chemical reaction that begins when compounds like sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides are released into the air. These substances can rise very high into the atmosphere, where they mix and react with water, oxygen, and other chemicals to form more acidic pollutants, known as acid rain.

The emissions of pollutant and poisonous gases such as carbon dioxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide combine with the water droplets of clouds to form acids of carbonic acid, sulphuric acid and nitric acid. When these acids fall on earth along with water droplets, it is called 'acid rain'.

It is caused due to the emissions of polluting gases from industries and automobiles. Basically, air pollution is the lead cause of acid rain.
