A number that, when added to the first number, produces zero. If[math]a+b=0[/math], then[math]a[/math]and[math]b[/math]are additive inverses of each other. Usuallywe denote additive inverses with a negative sign out front, i.e. the additive inverse of[math]a[/math]is[math]-a[/math].

Basically it is....if we add sonething in a number and we get 0
the additive inverse of 7 is −7, because 7 + (−7) = 0, and the additive inverse of −0.3 is 0.3, because −0.3 + 0.3 = 0 .
