Isotopes are the atoms of the element having same Atomic number (Z) but different Atomic mass (A). This means isotopes of an element have same number of Protons but different number of Neutron in their nuclei.

F. Soddy is the discoverer of isotopes.

Carbon-12 and carbon-14 are two isotopes of the element carbon. The difference between carbon-12 and carbon-14 is the number of neutrons in each of their atoms. The number given after the atom name indicates the number of protons plus neutrons in an atom or ion .Atom of both isotopes of carbon contain 6 protons.
