The substances which are capable of adding oxygen to others are known as oxidising agents. eg. KMnO3 and K2Cr2O7.
When a oxidising agent is added to propanol it is converted into propanoic acid.

CH3-CH2-CH2-OH          KMNO3        CH3-CH2-COOH

Answer:

(1) Oxidizing agent is a substance which does the oxidation of other substance.

(2) When oxidising agent like acidified K2 cr2 O7 and alkaline kMno4 is added to propanol ,it forms propanoic acid.

The reaction is as follows -

alkaline KMno4

CH³CH²CH²OH ================

acidified k²cr²O7

CH³CH²COOH
