antacid are generally a substance which neutralizes the excess acid accumulated in human stomach.
antacid are anti -acid i.e bases which neutralizes the excess acid {hydrochloric acid} present in stomach and give relief.
so it is being used.
some of the examples of antacids are
milk of magnesia,alka-seltzer etc
