Assam is popularly known as "the land of the red river and blue hills".

  • Assam is popularly known as "the land of the red river and blue hills". It is known as the Land of the red river because Assam is comprised of The Mighty river Brahmaputra which is commonly known as the Red River.
  • The Brahmaputra is called the red river because the soil of that region is rich in an iron range which makes the colour of the river red. Because Assam lies in the North-Eastern part of India it is mostly enveloped by hills on all sides and forming blue clouds all over it, which is why it is called the land of blue hills.
