AVOmeter is a British trademark for a line of multimeters and electrical measuring instruments; the brand is now owned by the Megger Group Limited. The first Avometer was made by the Automatic Coil Winder and Electrical Equipment Co. in 1923, and measured direct voltage, direct current and resistance.[1] Possibly the best known multimeter of the range was the Model 8, which was produced in various versions from May 1951 until 2008; the last version was the Mark 7.

Avometer comes from "AVO" and "meter". 'A' means amperes, to measure electrical currents. 'V' means the voltage, to measure voltage or voltage. 'O' means ohms, to measure ohms or resistance. Finally, the meter or unit of measure. Often referred to as AVO Meter Multimeter or Multitester. Of the word can be a sense of AVO meter is a device for measuring current, voltage, both alternating current (AC) Direct Current (DC) and electrical resistance.
AVO meter is very important function in any electronics work because it can help resolve measurements easily and quickly. But before using it, the user must know in advance the types of AVO meter and how to use them to avoid mistakes in its use and will cause damage to the AVO meter.
Based on the working principle, there are two types of AVO meter :
1) . AVO meter analog
AVO Meter using the needle as a pointer analog scale. To obtain the measurement results, it should be read by range or divisions. The accuracy of the measurement results of the AVO Meter analog is limited by the width of the scale pointer, vibration of the pointer, the accuracy of printing axle, zero calibration, number of ranges of scale. In measurements using AVO Meter Analog, measurement errors can occur due to errors in observation (paralax).
2)AVO digital meter
At AVO digital meter, the measurement results can be read directly in the form of numbers (digits).
Hope it helps......
