Biodegradable pollutants are those which are decomposed by micro-organisms such as bacteria, e.g., sewage, cow-dung, discarded vegetables etc. Non-biodegradable pollutants are those which cannot be decomposed by microorganisms e.g., mercury, aluminium, lead, copper, DDT, etc.

What are biodegradable pollutants?

lf much of domestic sewage papers, woods, garbage, Iive stock wastes, etc. are easily degraded completely by microorganisms, it becomes useful. But if these materials enter the environment in such large quantities, that they can not be degraded completely then addition of these materials causes polution in environment.

It is possible to do in small small pieces. It can be broken or divided simpler as usual by the help of the action of the microorganisms.
