What do you mean chloride shift? Chloride shift is a process which occurs in the body of the humans during the circulation of oxygen and carbon dioxide through the blood. The carbon dioxide is taken up the RBCs and the enzyme carbonic anhydrase converts the CO2 to H2CO3, which breaks to give bicarbonate ion and hydrogen ion.
