Colonialism is the policy or practice of acquiring full or partial country of another country or region.
Indian peasantry was very badly affected by British rule as the farmers had to switch from food crops to cash crops as per the whims of the colonialists. Consequently, instead of rice, wheat and maize, indigo and opium were cultivated to enable the rulers of the day to make money; besides, the wages paid to the peasants were far below the prevailing rates.

Colonialism is the practice of acquiring full or partial political control over another country and hence exploiting the country economically and denying the basic rights to citizen.British in India introduced revenue system such as
land revenue settlement ,ryotwari system .These system worked with sole motive exploiting the peasants .
In these system zamindars collected the tax from peasants  usually peasants were unable to pay large revenue imposed on them by zamindars ,so the crops such as wheat ,rice were replaced by cash crops.Earlier farmer used the crops he used to grow for self consumptiom but after growing of cash crops the farmers struggled for their livelihood .As a result of what large scale migration of workers took place and Indian peasantry was stuck in the debt of poverty and hunger.
