The phenomenon due to which metal are slowly eaten by the reaction of air, water & chemicals present in atmosphere, is called corrosion.
Example:- Iron articles are shiny when new, but get coated with a reddish brown powder when left for some time.
This process is commonly known as a rusting of iron. The black coating on silver & the green coating on copper are other examples of corrosion.
Effect of Corrosion:-
i)- Corrosion causes damage to car bodies, bridges, iron railings, ships & all objects made of metals, specially those which are made up of iron.
ii)- Corrosion is a wasteful process in most of cases. Every year tones of various metals especially iron get wasted in the country. Hence, it is quite necessary to prevent corrosion.
(Note:- In case of aluminium, corrosion is not proved to be wasteful.
I HOPE ITS HELPFULL FOR YOU.
IF IT HELPFULL FOR YOU THAN MARK AS A BRAINLIST.

Hii here is ur answer
Corrosion is define as when the metals are contact with the atmospheric oxygen and moisture then it becomes rusting or atmospheric oxygen moisture corrode the metals.
There is one simple way to prevent corrosion is use a corrosion resistant metal such as aluminum or Stainless Steel. Protective coatings.
The application of a paint coating is a cost effective way of preventing corrosion.
There are some methods :-
Galvanisation - It is a galvanic process by which metals deteriorate through oxidation - usually but not always to their oxides.
Cathodic protection - By using more electrically active alloy near the protected equipment, this method diverts the attention of the corrosion agents to itself until it completely degrades.
Thanks..
hope it helps you...
