In my opinion, culture is one of the most important thing in a person’s life. Of course family and friends are important, but without culture we wouldn’t be who we are today or have the relationships with the people in our lives that we do. Culture shapes our identity and it makes us who we are, one of a kind and unique. Having culture could be any number of factors in a person’s life such as where they were raised, their values, and beliefs. I was raised in a simple life on a small farm in the middle of Kansas. I attended a farming community based school with the class size of about 28. It was like having 28 brothers and sisters and then that many sets of parents as well, everybody looked out for each other. The town I went to school in had a population of about 600 people and 95% of them were white. There weren’t many different cultures in this town, one, because it was so small, and two, because we all basically had the same beliefs and values since we all had the same type of upbringing. When I started high school, there were about three African American’s and two Hispanics students within the school. Even though they were a different race their culture fit right in with ours because again we were raised in the same area and brought up with the same beliefs and values. My identity is a pretty simple one. From the minute I was able to do physical labor I was assigned chores, I was taught the meaning of hard work and what is what like to earn something on my own.

Culture according to me is something great created within family, friends and people who you care about . It doesn’t always have to be something ancient / sacred or it doesn’t have to be compulsory . It’s something you and your family , friends love doing with you !!
