Dehydrohalogenation refers to the elimination of HX from an alkyl halide to make an alkene in presence of Alcoholic KOH.

Well in this de means detachment and hydrohalogination is a process in which hydrogen and halogen is added in a compound.
Hence dehydrohalogination means removal or elimination of hydrogen and halogen from a compound.
For example:- elimination/removal of HCl from propylchloride to form propene.
