Cl refers to an atom of chlorine, Cl2 is a molecule of chlorine formed by two chlorine atoms of chlorine sharing two electrons.
Cl3 by itself does not exist. The CL3 when attached to a Al (aluminium) atom, can combine with 3 chlorine atoms to make this aluminium chloride molecule.
