Changing magnetic fields can set up current loops in nearby metallic bodies. They dissipate electrical energy as heat. Such currents are called eddy currents. Eddy currents are used to advantages in certain applications like

(i) Magnetic braking in trains,
(ii) Electromagnetic damping,
(iii) Induction furnace,
(IV) Electric power meters.
