Empirical formula may be defined as the formula of the compound which gives the simplest whole number ratio of the atoms of various elements present in one molecule of the compound.
Example: after calculating, the empirical formula of a compound is found to be CH
But the molecular formula is C2H2
Molecular formula= n x empirical formula
n is the multiplying factor which is obtained by dividing the mass of empirical formula by the actual mass of the compound.

Hey I'm MrMysterious and I'm here to answer your question

The answer of your question ->

≥ Empirical formula is the simplest and smallest formula which gives the relative no. of atoms of different elements present in a molecule of an compound

≥ For Ex- H2O , CH2O

≥ The empirical formula CH2 , it means this belongs from alkane family. Such series of compounds in which the same functional group substitutes for hydrogen in a carbon chain is the homologous series, differs by a --CH2----unit.
