Something that is permeable can be passed through, especially by liquids or gases. ... Apermeable surface allows materials like liquids to pass through — either in or out. Inside the body, the walls of cells arepermeable membranes that allow fluids and nutrients to get in and nourish the cells.

Selectively Permeable Membranes All cells are enclosed with a cell membrane. A selectively permeable cell membrane is one that allows certain molecules or ions to pass through it by meansof active or passive transport.

A semipermeable membrane is a type of biological or synthetic, polymeric membranethat will allow certain molecules or ions to pass through it by diffusion—or occasionally by more specialized processes of facilitated diffusion, passive transport or active transport.

Fully permeable or Freely permeable means it allows all the substances to pass through it.

Selectively permeable or Semi permeable means it allows only useful substances to pass through it.

Impermeable means it does not allow any substances to pass through it.
