What is Ganga plan and what are its important aspects

In 1985, ganga action plan was formulated to deduce the pollution load of river ganga.

The important aspects of ganga action plan are :-

1. treatment of sewage before its desposal into the river
2. setting up of effluent treatment plant by the industries.
3. Establishment of electric crematoria
4. construction of community toilets
5. Development of ghats and interception
6. testing the quality of river water:-

• MPN :- Most probable number of Coliform bacteria per hundred ml of water
• BOD :- bio-chemical oxygen demand
• TDS:- total dissolved solid in water is tested
• pH of water is tested using universal indicator
