The state of heart when it is not pumping blood effectively enough to meet the needs of the body. Heart Failure is not the same as cardiac arrest or a heart attack when heart muscles is suddenly damaged by an inadequate blood supply .

Heart Failure: A chronic condition in which the heart doesn't pump blood as well as it should.

Heart failure can occur if the heart can't pump (systolic) or fill (diastolic) adequately.

It is also called CHF.
