Because this type of sphybridization only uses one of thep orbitals, there are still two p orbitals left which the carbon can use. Those p orbitals are at right angles to one another and to theline formed by the hybrid orbitals. ... This kind of hybridizationoccurs when a carbon atom is bonded to two other atoms

Hello,

Hybridization is the mixing of two orbitals with the same energy levels to give a new type of orbitals. The intermixing works on quantum mechanics.

there are three types of hybridization :

1. sp hybridization - sp hybridization involves one 's' and one 'p' orbital of equal energy to form a new hybrid orbital.

# the formed Sp orbital is maintained at 180 degree.

# example of sp hybrid orbital: Beryllium chloride

2. sp² hybridization - it involves mixing of one 's' orbital and two 'p' orbitals of equal energy to form a new orbital.

# It is formed in trigonal symmetry with bond angle 120 degree.

# example of Sp² hybrid orbital is: Ethylene

3. sp³ hybridization - it involves mixing of one 's' orbital and three ‘p’ orbitals of equal energy to form a new hybrid.

# it is formed in tetrahedral symmetry with bond angle 109.28 degree.

# example of Sp³ hybridization is: Ethane

Hope it helped
