When a liquid is heated continuously, initially, it's temperature increases. Later, at a certain stage, it's temperature does not increase even when what is supplied to it. At this temperature, heat absorbed by the liquid is used for breaking the bonds between it's molecules or atoms, i.e., for doing work against the forces of attraction between the atoms or molecules and conversion into gaseous phase. This what is called the latent heat of vaporization.
