Majoritarianism is a term which is used for Rule by the Majority Group. In Sri Lanka, Sinhalese were present in majority and that is why they ruled Sri Lanka and gave all the additional and miscellaneous benefits to people belonging to their group i.e. Sinhalese. This gave the rise to Majoritarianism in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka became independent in the year 1948. They got their independence because of their majority. A community named Sinhala, the leader of that community fought to secure their dominance under government. After this fight the community Sinhala established their supremacy by an election. That democratic election elected the government by adoption the series of Majoritarian measures.

These are the measure:

1. In 1956 an act was passed where they rejected Tamil, and recognize Sinhala as the official language.

2. All the government jobs will be in favour of Sinhala applicants.

3. They started a new constituency where they will spread the great thoughts of Buddhist and also will protect Buddhism.
