Polyester:— Polyester is a synthetic fibre. It is made from petroleum products which contain a large number of etsers.
It does not absorb water. Terylene, Decron, and Terene are some examples of polyester fibres. Terylene is a polyester fibre commonly mixed (blended) with cotton to form terycot and with wool to form terywool. Blended fibre are more comfortable than synthetic fibres and are easier to maintain the natural fibres.
- It is a very strong fibre. Polyester clothes are quite durable.
- Polyester clothes are easy to maintain. They are wrinkle free and resist wear and tear.
- Polyester is light in weight and elastic.
- It is a popular fibre for making shirts, trousers, sarees, and other dress materials.
- It is used to make sales of sailing boats as it is least affected by water and is light-weight.
- Hollow polyester fibres trap heat. Hence, they are used to make jackets, sleeping bags, etc.
- In industries, polyester is used to make bottles, jars, utensils, wires, films, and many other useful products. PET jars and bottles are widely used to store food and confectionery items.
