Answer:
Apartheid was a system of racial segregation and discrimination that only existed in South Africa and was enacted by white European immigrants who had already made their way there. Based on their skin tone, this method classified the population into whites and non-whites.
Apartheid refers to racial segregation, and apartheid laws reflect this. From 1948 until the early 1990s, apartheid, a system of institutionalized racial segregation, prevailed in South Africa and South West Africa.
Apartheid policies included the following:
- Blacks and non-whites were denied rights, including the right to vote, during this time.
- Strict Segregation: For black people, the apartheid regime was harsh and oppressive. White neighbourhoods were off-limits to them. Only those who obtained a permit were allowed to labour in white areas. Trains, buses, taxis, hotels, hospitals, schools, colleges, public restrooms, and other services were all segregated for whites and blacks. They did not have permission to enter the white people's churches.
- Blacks were prohibited from organizing organizations or protesting against blatantly harsh and discriminatory treatment. As a result, they were less able to peacefully fight apartheid.
The major features are as follows-
- The people were split into black and white under the apartheid system, with black people receiving inferior treatment.
- Black people experienced oppression. They were not permitted to reside in a region populated by white people.
- They could only work in white zones if they had a work permit.
- Black people were granted their own hotels, schools, colleges, hospitals, railways, and other accommodations.
- Political party formation was not permitted for Black people.
